Rascal Flatts Admits To Worries Over "Rewind"

Rascal Flatts says taking chances is what "Rewind" was all about

Rascal Flatts' Joe Don Rooney says he wouldn't necessarily call "Rewind" a "make or break" single, but he tells "Rolling Stone Country" it was "definitely leaning more toward 'need to make.'"  Why? He explains that their last chart-topping hit was 2012's "Banjo," and "spending that much time away from radio is scary."

Joe Don adds that it left them feeling pushed into a corner, needing to fight their way back.  "Banjo's" follow up, "Come Wake Me Up," peaked at number four then "Changed" stalled at number 20 - becoming the lowest-charting single of their career.  Gary LeVox admits that was "the big eye-opener" and says it put them in unfamiliar territory, which they took as a cue to "find a different direction."
The trio's Jay DeMarcus says "there was a weight lifted" from them with the success of "Rewind," which debuted at the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart while the title track went to number one last month on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase list.  He explains that they were "cautiously optimistic" about the disc, but admits they feel the album features "some of the best music" they've made in recent years.  Rascal Flatts just released "Payback," the second single from "Rewind," last week.
