Happy Earth Day! Small Things You Can Do

It’s been two years since we launched iHeartRadio Earth – our ongoing sustainability initiative designed to inspire iHeart’s millions of listeners to take action to positively impact the environment. This work is more important than ever, as key climate reports released last year highlighted the dire need for us to take bigger steps to preserve our world.

At iHeart, we believe that millions of small actions have the potential to make a massive difference for the planet. While it might have been easier to reduce our carbon footprint as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic kept us home most of the time, many of us are starting to settle back into routines, including commuting to the office again, or taking vacations. But there are still key actions you can take to reduce your impact on the environment and live a more sustainable life.

To get us started, we’re excited to provide some tips for smarter, sustainable living at work, at home and in your community, thanks to our partnership with NEEF. Join us and take greener steps in your everyday life to help protect and preserve the planet – while saving time and money!

Tips for Sustainable Living

  •  Monitor your carbon footprint: Many of our daily activities – such as using electricity, driving a car, or disposing of waste – cause greenhouse gas emissions. Together these emissions make up a household's carbon footprint. Take a few minutes to find out what your household’s carbon footprint is with EPA's Household Carbon Footprint Calculator and discover ways to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Unplug unused electronics: Unplugging unused electronics – like phone chargers, DVDs, printers, computers and rarely-used TVs – will help save energy consumption, which accounts for 20 percent of greenhouses gases.
  • Fix water leaks: Leaks are annoying – which means they’re also easy to find! Fixing these trickles in your kitchen, bathroom or even outside can help lower your water bill and conserve wasted water.
  • Eat less meat: If cows were a nation, they’d be the world’s third-largest greenhouse gas emitters, and you can help lower that by going meatless just one day a week. It can be a fun way to try new things and maybe even find a new family-favorite recipe!
  • Reduce and reuse: You’ve heard this before, but recycling truly is a simple way to help our world stay green and clean. This is especially true as the amount of waste generated in the US is around 4.9 pounds per person per day. Before purchasing new items for your home, school or office, look around and see what you can reuse or try to buy second-hand first. This will reduce the climate-affecting greenhouse gases required to make new products.
  • Volunteer in your community: Nicer weather making you want to spend time outside? Do some good while getting some sun by participating in community cleanups near you! Just a few hours of work can help improve the look and feel of your neighborhood and benefit the local environment. With iHeart’s Spirit Day, you can even take a day off work to make a positive change in your community.
