We Think This Is The Perfect Movie Length

When you went to see “Oppenheimer” or “Killers of the Flower Moon,” did you find yourself checking your watch more than once? You’re definitely not the only one, as those movies were three and three and a half hours long. And new research suggests that’s just too long for many Americans.

According to a new poll of 2-thousand adults, the average person wants to spend a lot less time at the movie theater from now on. In fact, respondents say the perfect movie length is just 92 minutes.

  • Some folks do think a movie should be longer, 15% like a movie that’s two hours or longer and some even prefer films that are longer than two and a half hours, but only 2% of those surveyed.
  • In the last two months, the average person says they’ve watched two movies they feel were too long, while 23% have waited it out through three or more.
  • The survey also asks how people feel about subtitles, and it turns out, 15% say whether subtitles should be on or off is a hotly debated topic in their home. But for 77%, it’s a total non-issue.
  • A third of respondents say they “never” use subtitles on their TV at home, while 16% “always” do.
  • But younger Americans seem to be bigger fans of subtitles, as 30% of Gen Zers say they “always” watch with them and 23% of millennials say the same. But only 13% of Gen X and baby boomers do.

Movies that are the “perfect” length, according to the survey

  • “Dodgeball”
  • “Kung Fu Panda”
  • “Beetlejuice”
  • “Monsters Inc”
  • “Toy Story 2”
