As part of "mailbox improvement week," which was last week, the United State Postal Service (USPS) is encouraging customers to upgrade to larger jumbo mailboxes to better accommodate the increase in packages from online shopping. They hope the larger mailboxes will lower the number of oversized items that are being left outside when customers aren’t home, helping to reduce theft.
The USPS-approved jumbo mailboxes can be bought at multiple retailers starting about about $66, although the post office doesn’t make anything off the sale of the new mailboxes.
In addition to the bigger boxes, the USPS is also recommending customers sign up for "informed delivery" to receive alerts when packages are delivered.
