How Do You Vacation Prep? House Cleaning!

There’s nothing like coming back to a dirty home to ruin the vacation high after a fun getaway. That’s one reason so many people like to tidy up before a trip. According to a new survey, 75% of respondents prefer to clean their home prior to leaving town.

The poll of 2-thousand U.S. travelers reveals some of their cleaning habits:

  • The average American starts preparing for their trip more than two weeks before they go.
  • Two-thirds (66%) of folks are so excited about their upcoming trip, it motivates them to clean first.
  • Chores they prioritize include laundry (77%), dishes (66%), the bathroom (58%), and sweeping & mopping (56%).
  • About half (51%) of those surveyed say they “dread” the thought of having to clean when they return, so they do it before traveling.
  • Some people don’t stop at cleaning their home, they also clean their most-used travel items, like luggage (40%) and travel bags (39%).
  • Travelers admit they’ve felt “embarrassed” on vacation because their clothes (20%), shoes (19%) or luggage (18%) looked old or worn out.
  • While 79% of respondents feel it’s important for their luggage to be clean when traveling, 27% say it’s the “most difficult item” for them to clean.
