Bad News If You Like Lots of Bacon

Some big health news is not going over well with people who love foods like bacon and hot dogs.

New research presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Philadelphia shows a direct link between processed red meat and an increased risk of dementia.

The study of more than 130,000 adults found that those who ate at least two servings per week of processed meat, like bacon, hot dogs, or bologna, had a 14% higher risk of developing dementia.

Researchers also found that eating more than two servings a week contributed to an additional 1.6 years of cognitive aging.

Scientists say replacing servings of red meat with things like nuts or beans could lower your risk of cognitive decline by 20%.
