A bag of potato chips now costs nearly 50% more than 10 years ago. The average bag now is about $6.50.

Part of the rise in price is due to inflation

But another major cause is weather conditions. Most potatoes are grown in Idaho and Washington State where they have had back-to-back warm years. It turns out potatoes are sensitive to warmer soil temperatures.
