Billy Currington Holds Benefit Concert To Help Hurricane Dorian Victims

Billy Currington made his way to Key West, Florida on Saturday (September 14) to help out the people in the Bahamas who are currently recovering from the devastating damage from Hurricane Dorian.

On Saturday night, Currington held a benefit concert to raise money for the island of Green Turtle Cay. The show was announced a few days prior on Instagram. "After seeing the impact Hurricane Dorian had on the Bahamas, I feel we gotta do something," he says. "So I looked online for organizations already in motion, helping out the island of Green Turtle Cay, which I came to know when we shot the video for the song 'People Are Crazy.' I saw that my friend Paul Menta is heading up fundraising efforts with Key West Cares and putting on a show at the Key West Theatre, and I decided I wanted to be a part of what they're doing."

He goes on to share additional ways in which he hoped he could help. "There will be an additional opportunity for a fundraiser at the full band party at the Sunset Pier starting around sunset," he adds. "If you have something to auction, hit up Paul Menta at Key West Cares."

The day following the benefit concert (Sunday, September 15), Currington also volunteered his time to help Key West Cares load up relief supplies. "The reason we hooked up with Key West Cares is because I understood that they're more hands-on," Currington shared with CBS Miami. "It's a little bit less of sending money over there and more of sending things that money has bought over here, things they need- generators, on and on- and we're able to take it in a bit 1941 plans." He adds, "Just everything they had going, that's what I wanted to be a part of."

The DC-3 aircraft was loaded with about 7,000 pounds of goods ranging from generators and water to roofing supplies and tools. There's still much work to be done and help needed by organizations like Key West Cares. If you want to help out yourself, head over to their website for more information or to make a donation.
