Sam Hunt Returns To The Stage For The First Time Since DUI Arrest

Sam Hunt has returned to the stage for the first time since his arrest last month. On Wednesday (December 4), Hunt performed at an event in New York, marking his first appearance since his DUI arrest about two weeks ago in Nashville, Tennessee.

A source told Entertainment Tonight that Hunt's performance was "high-energy and enthusiastic," adding the he "seemed really in the moment, happy, and excited to be back on stage performing."

ET reports that Hunt's recent run-in with the law was not a topic of conversation during the concert. "It was nothing but pure excitement and lots of screaming from the crowd."

Hunt played for about an hour performing several hits like "Body Like A Back Road," "Cop Car," and his latest single, "Kinfolks." The country star also talked about his new music coming in 2020. "We're finishing it up before January," he told the crowd. "We're going to hit the road and tour next year," he added. "I didn't do a lot of dates this year, but next year we're hitting it hard!"

Fellow country artists, Dustin Lynch, Chris Janson, Blanco Brown, Runaway June, Gone West and Matt Stell also performed at the event.

One day following his arrest Hunt issued an apologetic statement which he posted to Twitter.

“Wednesday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville,” he wrote. “It was a poor and selfish decision and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it. It won’t happen again.”

The 34-year-old country singer was taken into custody on November 21 after police received reports of a vehicle traveling south on the northbound lanes in East Nashville.

According to court documents, the singer had two open containers of beer in the car with him, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. He also handed police his credit card and his passport when asked for a drivers license.

The arrest warrant indicated that Hunt's blood alcohol level was .173. The legal limit in Tennessee is .08. He was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and possessing and open container.

Hunt was released on a $2,500 bond and will appear in court on January 17, 2020.
