The Full Story:
Make all the resolutions you want, our goal for 2018 is to get more quality sleep. And if you’re having trouble getting to sleep or staying that way all night, you know it’s not always so easy to do. But these sleep trends promise to help make it happen for us this year.
Smart mattresses - You can’t get a good night’s rest on a terrible mattress, so why not upgrade to one that analyzes your REM cycle and wakes you with a smart alarm the moment it senses you’re in a light sleep stage? Companies like Eight Sleep are using this technology in their mattresses and they even sync with your Amazon Alexa, so you can ask her, “Alexa, how did I sleep?”
Sleep trackers you don’t have to wear - Fitbits are fine for workouts, but wearing that bulky thing to bed isn’t comfortable for everyone. But there are new sleep trackers that can follow your sleeping patterns while sitting on your nightstand, so you get more quality rest.
Better bedding - Tired of going back and forth between being too hot or too cold while you’re trying to sleep? More brands are working to fix that with bedding made of breathable fabrics to keep you warm, but not overheated. Brooklinen even has a new twill bedding line that’s designed to feel like your favorite worn-in T-shirt and old flannel shirt combined.
Good-for-you blue light - The Dodow is a digital sleep lamp that projects a glowing blue light on the ceiling that pulses slowly, so your body will follow its pattern. Just take a slow, deep breath when the light expands and release it when the light contracts. Syncing your breathing to the timing of the light is a form of sleep meditation and it’s supposed to help you get a better night’s sleep.
