What To Know About Calling In Sick After the Big Game Next Monday

While most people love a good Super Bowl party, the problem is it’s on a Sunday, which means partying too hard can make it a bit tough to get up for work the next day. Well, it seems a lot of folks have an answer for that – calling in sick.

A new OfficeTeam poll finds that 54% of workers know someone who’s called in sick following a big sporting event like the Super Bowl, up from 41% three years ago. And don’t think your HR manager doesn’t know what you’re dong. The survey also notes that 42% of senior managers say playing hooky after the big game is the most distracting and annoying thing about the day after a big sporting event.

And even if they are in the office, a lot of employees aren’t really paying attention to work. Other bad post-big game behavior includes:

  • Spending too much time talking sports (18%)
  • Showing up the day after tired or under the weather (17%)
  • Being a poor sport or overly competitive (15%)
  • Overdoing it with team decorations or attire (8%)

And it seems workers in some cities may want to really think whether they miss work after the big game, since managers in some places get more annoyed than others. Cleveland is the city where managers get annoyed the most (58%), followed by Denver (52%) and Chicago (51%).
