Adults Say Summer Loses Its Magic As You Get Older

When you’re a kid, the idea of summer is just the most exciting thing ever, but once you grow up and start working the excitement dwindles. But that doesn’t mean adults aren’t at least trying to keep that joy of summer alive

A new survey finds:

  • Two-thirds of Americans believe summer loses its magic as they get older.
  • Things that take the fun out of summer include:
    • Grown up responsibilities
    • Not having enough time
    • Having jobs
  • The average person says 14 is the age they had the best summer of their lives
  • The average person says having five adventures makes a summer memorable.

A lot of us have fond memories of our summers as children, and it seems some folks plan on trying to recreate that this year.

  • 70% of Americans say they plan on getting creative this summer.
  • Two out of three plan to embrace activities they loved as kids.
  • The top activities adults plan to recreate from their youth include:
    • Spending time with friends (44%)
    • Bonfires (31%)
    • Camping in the woods (30%)
    • Swimming in a pool (30%)
    • Family vacations (27%)
    • Family reunions (27%)
    • Sleepovers with friends (27%)
    • Swimming in a large body of water (25%)
    • Playing outside all day (25%
    • Sleeping in the backyard (23%)

And it seems one way to continue to enjoy your summer as adults is by having kids.

  • 85% of parents say their children have helped them recapture the magic of summer.
