It’s no shock to discover that vegans and meat eaters don’t agree on much, and apparently folks’ choice of food options is causing some major drama at one office.
A man shared on Reddit’s “Am I The A-Hole” forum that one of his colleagues recently started a vegan dinner club that was only open to those in the office who followed a vegan, vegetarian or pescatarian diet. It’s so exclusive that the group’s “statement of purpose,” notes that co-workers with other diets “will not be able to join the club.”
Well, that didn’t sit right with the OP so he decided to start his own dinner club at the office, a burger and steak club, where the office’s meat eaters could go out and try new restaurants every week. But apparently that didn’t go over well with the vegans, who filed a complaint with HR. But the vegans didn’t get what they wanted because HR approved the meat club, although the OP says the gal who created the vegan club “refuses to talk to him.
Well, folks on Reddit had some definite things to say about the drama, with the post receiving 1,700 comments. Most agree that the OP is not the A-hole in this story, although there definitely was some debate.
- “A minority wants a club to get to know other members of that minority and share experiences,” the commenter wrote. “Nothing wrong with that. You’re only being excluded in the most banal of meanings of that word.”
- One commenter even compared it to a “whites only” club in response to a club for minorities.
- Others didn’t understand why the vegan club wouldn’t invite outsiders in and possibly try and change their diets, with one noting, “I don’t get the logic.”
- Some even noted that HR is actually the A-hole in the story for giving the okay to the first exclusionary group.
