Most Pet Owners Say Their Animal Helped Them Get Through Lockdown

Being stuck in the house under lockdown was lonely for a lot of people, but a new survey shows a lot of people with pets found things a little less difficult.

A survey of 2,000 cat owners (57% of which also had dogs) finds:

  • 76% say they became closer to their pets during quarantine.
  • 57% admit their pet made them feel less alone during lockdown.
  • Another 49% say their animal made them feel less anxious.
  • Other ways pets helped folks get through quarantine
    • Playing with them encourage folks to move around their space (47%)
    • Gave them someone to talk to (41%)
    • Helped give them a schedule throughout the day (39%)
    • Brought a feeling of positivity into day (35%)

And apparently folks learned a lot about their pets after spending so much time with them.

  • 66% say they learned something new about their pet.
  • 64% discovered the spot their pet enjoys hiding in.
  • 57% discovered new behaviors
  • 55% found a new food their pet likes.

But it seems people’s animals have just about had enough of their owners at home all the time.

  • 73% of owners say their cat seems ready for things to go back to normal so they can have their space.
