Want To Manage Your Weight? Get On Scale Daily May Help Holiday Weight Gain

‘Tis the season for festive cocktails and holiday treats at every turn, and all that indulging can lead us to gain a few pounds by the time we ring in the New Year. But the secret to avoiding holiday weight gain may be as simple as stepping on the scale every day, according to new research.

study from the University of Georgia followed 111 adults for 14 weeks, from before the holiday season in November until after all the celebrations come to an end in January. They split participants into two groups, one that weighed themselves each day and the other didn’t. And at the end of the study, everyone in the weigh-in group managed to not gain weight, and some even lost a few pounds, while the group who didn’t get on the scale daily packed on some holiday pounds.

Researchers suggest seeing a visual reminder every day helped that group stay on track and modify their behavior when needed to maintain. And since the average American gains a pound or two each and every holiday season, this quick fix could help us avoid that.
