Yesterday was President’s Day, and in honor of the occasion, a new poll looked to find out whether folks would have any desire to be president themselves, even for one day, and it looks like most people don’t want the job.
The YouGov poll finds:
- Only 39% of Americans are very or somewhat interested in being president for a day.
- 55% are not very or not at all interested.
- Democrats and Republicans have similar opinions when it comes to wanting to be president for a day.
- In fact 55% of both Democrats and Republicans are not very or not at all interested in the job, while 41% of Dems and 42% of Republicans are very or somewhat interested.
- Along gender lines, more men than women are interested (48% vs. 31%)
- With 63% of women not at all interested, compared to 47% of men.
- Overall, 26% of Americans believe they would perform much better as president than the average historical president.
- 17% say they’d perform a little better.
- 16% say about the same.
- 6% a little worse.
- 8% say much worse.
- Men are more likely than women to say they’d perform much better (31% vs. 41%).
- Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they’d perform much better (35% vs. 19%).
- Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say they’d perform much worse (10% vs. 7%).
