What Are the Most Popular Home Features?

What does your dream home look like? Potential homebuyers often have a wishlist with all the features they want in their new home, like a fireplace, a pool, or a nice outdoor living space. But what’s the most sought-after feature in the country? A new study uses Zillow search data to find out.

  • Analysts with Frontdoor, an app for home repair and maintenance, ranked home features based on the number of average daily views of home listings on Zillow that contain each feature.
  • According to the study, the most popular home feature in the U.S. is hardwood floors.
  • The average home with hardwood floors got 261 views a day on Zillow, while the next most desired feature, open-plan areas, got 226, followed by en-suites with 214 views.
  • More than half (54%) of home hunters would also be willing to pay more for a home with hardwood floors.

The other most popular home features include:

  • In the kitchen - The most popular features are granite countertops, double ovens and butcher blocks. The average house with any of those features gets an average of 160 daily views.
  • In the bathroom - Sunken tubs are the most desired feature, homes with them get 174 views on an average day. A power shower comes in second with 161 daily views, on average.
