No matter where you’re on the road, you’re bound to encounter a bad driver or two, but some places seem to have more than their share. And new research reveals where you’re most likely to find them.
- The 16th Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report has just come out, highlighting where the safest drivers in the country, as well as the riskiest, can be found.
- This is the first year the insurer used anonymized connected driving data to rank the 100 most populated urban areas in the U.S. by driving behavior.
- They rated the cities on things like phone handling, high-speed driving and hard braking.
The America’s Best Drivers report finds:
- The safest drivers in the country are in Honolulu, Hawaii, while the riskiest are in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
- Drivers in Honolulu also hard break the least and drive at high speed the least.
- Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Oregon, and Virginia Beach, Virginia, round out the other top five safest cities for drivers.
- After Albuquerque, the other riskiest cities for drivers are Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Murrieta/Temecula/Menifee, California; Fresno, California and Stockton, California.
- West coast drivers tend to handle their phones less while driving and San Jose, California is home to the drivers who handle theirs the least.
- Atlanta, San Diego, San Francisco, and Las Vegas make up the rest of the top cities where drivers handle phones least while driving.
- Drivers who do it the most are in Providence, Rhode Island.
- Springfield, Massachusetts is second for drivers who handle their phones most, followed by McAllen, Texas, Boston and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
- Drivers in Bakersfield, California, hard brake the most, and those in Port St. Lucie, Florida, drive at high speed the most.
- Aside from Honolulu, drivers in the Midwest hard brake the least, with Madison, Wisconsin; Cleveland, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa, and Providence, Rhode Island, making up the top five.
- The other cities where motorists drive at high speed the most are Palm Bay/Melbourne, Florida; Provo/Orem, Utah; Phoenix; and San Diego.
