Morgan Evans covered one of Garth Brooks’ iconic 90s hits during a recent appearance on God’s Country, and Brooks shared his reaction.

Evans teamed up with brothers and podcast hosts Dan and Reid Isbell to cover “Ain’t Goin’ Down (’til the Sun Comes Up),” which Brooks released on his fifth studio album, In Pieces, in 1993. Evans shared a clip from the podcast on Instagram on Sunday (March 29), and the Oklahoma-born country legend responded.

“Dude!!!!! Are you kidding me????” Brooks wrote in the comments. “I can’t sing that song without going into cardiac arrest and you guys make it look easy!!!! QUIT doing Garth stuff better than Garth!!!! Honored, flattered and absolutely LOVE that moment!! love, g.”

“Hahahaha maaaaaaate!!! Been singing your songs my whole life. Means a lot! Thanks legend!” Evans replied.

Evans appeared on God’s Country days before he released his latest studio album, Steel Town. The record, written and recorded over a three-year span, offers listeners a glimpse into his hometown of Newcastle, Australia. Evans said during a recent conversation with iHeartCountry that the record “starts with me going back to my hometown and reconnecting with my roots – where I came from and who I used to be … and who I still want to be.” He added that going home “was such a good, grounding thing. I’m sure it is for everyone when they go back to their hometown.

“I’ve learned so many lessons making this album,” Evans told iHeartCountry. “I think you do making every album, but like most great lessons in life, I don’t know that I would’ve understood it or listened if someone told me, so I just had to listen and I just had to learn it, rather. And to be here releasing this album in the place that I’m at in life right now, it feels good. It feels right. And so, to be in that position, it’s pretty hard to have any sort of regrets. So, no [I wouldn’t tell my past self anything], I’m really grateful for where it’s at. I’m really looking forward to making the next one, but I’m looking forward to going out and touring this one, as well.”
