Jelly Roll offered to pay a fan’s tuition when he performed on a rooftop stage on Monday night (June 17) on Lower Broadway in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee.
The Whitsitt Chapel hitmaker headlined Nashville-based 107.5 The River’s latest River On The Rooftop concert series show, hosted at Skydeck on Broadway. The free event also included Haven Madison and Jessie Murph, who joined Jelly Roll on stage later that evening to perform their 2023 collaboration, “Wild Ones.” The next River On The Rooftop events are set for June 26 and July 31.
“I’m gonna send somebody from my team to get you. We’re gonna talk about what college you go to and what your GPA is, and if all that checks out, we’re gonna help you get through school,” Jelly Roll said as he addressed a fan in the packed crowd at the rooftop show.
The reigning iHeartRadio Music Awards Best New Artist award in both Pop and Country categories delivered renditions of some of the biggest hits from his 2023 album, Whitsitt Chapel, titled after the church he attended in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville. Jelly Roll’s set list included “Save Me” — which includes Bell Bottom Country star Lainey Wilson on the album — “Son of a Sinner,” “Halfway to Hell” and “Need a Favor.”
Most recently, Jelly Roll released “I Am Not Okay,” a ballad that serves as a heartfelt reminder that “it’s not okay, but we’re all gonna be alright,” the award-winning artist sings in the newly-debuted track. Jelly Roll previously performed “I Am Not Okay” during the season finale of The Voice, and when he took the main stage at CMA Fest in Downtown Nashville earlier this month. Jelly Roll was part of a star-studded lineup during the longest-running country festival in the world. He’ll also team up with Ashley McBryde to host a televised CMA Fest concert special on Tuesday, June 25 at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on ABC. It will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.
