More Of Us Are Turning To Side Hustles To Make Money

These days more and more people rely on side hustles to bring in some extra cash, and a lot of people are enjoying that extra job more than their regular nine-to-five gig.

A new poll finds that 27% of America have turned their favorite hobby into a side hustle, with another 55% of people dreaming of doing the same. And doing some thing on the side seems to be quite profitable for a lot of people, with the average person making about $14,705 a year on their side business, with 14% actually making $22,800. Of course it takes time to make that money, with the average person spending 16 hours a week on their side hustle.

Jobs in the beauty and wellness sector seem to be some of the most poplar side hustles, including hairdressers, personal trainers and dieticians, with arts and entertainment (DJs and designers) and retail and sales also popular.

And while 62% of people say earning extra money is the reason they have or want to start a side business, it isn’t the only reason folks do it. In fact, 37% say they started their side gig to pursue a passion, while 41% did it so they could spend time doing what they enjoy.
