Fourth of July Food Numbers

  • Hot Dogs: According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, Americans will consume 150 million franks on the Fourth of July. That's enough hot dogs to stretch from Washington, D.C., to Los Angeles five times over. All those dogs will cost partygoers $101 million, estimates BIGresearch, a Worthington, Ohio-based consumer research firm -- and don't forget to tack on another $393.1 million for condiments and $34.5 million for buns.
  • Burgers: A July Fourth barbeque isn't complete without a grill full of burgers. This year Americans will shell out $176 million on hamburger patties and $34.5 million on buns.
  • Chips & Dip: There are few better --or at least tastier--ways to soak up the holiday booze than with chips, and lots of 'em. BIGresearch expects partygoers to spend $120.7 million on chips and dip this Fourth of July.
  • Brewski: An ice cold beer is a BBQ staple. That's why Americans will fork over $303.2 million on booze this Independence Day. Not in the mood for booze? Americans will also consume $126.2 million worth of soda.
  • A Sweet Finish: What better way to top off a festive meal than with a slice of juicy watermelon? If BIGresearch estimations hold up, Fourth of July partygoers will spend $149.1 million on the sweet treat.
