Sounds Around the House May Be Giving Your Dog Anxiety

There are sounds around the house that give pets anxiety that you probably don’t even know about.

It’s obvious that the two most terrifying noises for doggos are thunder and fireworks, but you’ll be surprised about some others. The challenge is dogs may not show that they are stressed or anxious.

Everyday beeps and rings in your home, like the microwave or smoke detector, are scary to pups too.

Here are some signs of stress to look for in your pet:

  • Cringing
  • Trembling
  • Running away
  • Panting
  • Licking their lips
  • Turning their head away from the noise
  • Stiffening their body
  • In some cases, a dog can turn their ears back or drop their head below their shoulders

Emma Grigg, a research associate and lecturer at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, says we need to focus on taking care of a pet’s mental wellbeing as much as food and exercise to keep them happy and healthy.
