What To Know About Holiday Leftovers

According to a new survey, 10% of Americans are willing to eat Thanksgiving leftovers seven days or longer after the initial meal. 28% of people stop after two days, with 25% after three days. The average person in the survey will go 3.36 days eating leftovers.

Make sure you eat or freeze your leftovers by tonight!

Experts say that any leftovers with meat or meat stuff in them (think gravy) should be eaten within four days. So that means tonight is the last day to eat them. If you cant finish it all, freeze it… that’s what I did with the whole pan of stuffing I got this year! I froze it in smaller single serve squares and double-wrapped it in plastic wrap.

Leftovers were the inspiration for TV dinners!

Did you know that TV dinners were actually inspired by Thanksgiving leftovers? Seems back in 1953, due to an ordering error, food company Swanson was stuck with 260 tons of frozen turkeys. Instead of tossing all that turkey and taking a loss, Swanson salesman Gerry Thomas came up with a genius idea. Inspired by the meals served on planes, he ordered 5,000 aluminum trays and organized an assembly line of workers to fill them with turkey, peas, cornbread, and sweet potatoes. That’s how the TV dinner was born. (Best Life)
