They Found Out Our Secrets About Dessert

Do you have a sweet tooth? A lot of us do, according to new research that reveals one in six Americans eat dessert every day. The survey of 5-thousand Americans split evenly into 100 per state finds that 74% consider themselves to be a “dessert person,” especially those from Washington (83%) and Iowa (81%).

The sugar-loaded poll also finds:

  • About three-quarters (73%) say they’re likely to give into their sweet tooth.
  • People from Indiana have the hardest time saying “no” to their cravings (82%), while Alaskans have the easiest time (23%).
  • Folks from Tennessee are most likely to eat dessert every day (25%), followed by those from Colorado, Louisiana and North Carolina (22% each.)
  • In general, people crave something sweet at 2:30 p.m.
  • More than two-thirds (69%) say desserts can turn a bad day into a good one.
  • When it comes to the most popular desserts, ice cream tops the list (55%), followed by cookies (35%) and chocolate (32%).
  • The average American estimates they eat close to 200 cookies a year and the favorites are chocolate chip (62%), peanut butter (31%) and brownie/double chocolate (26%).
  • The survey asked people to match cookies with certain attributes and respondents say the sexiest cookie is a French macaron (19%). Snickerdoodles are voted the most “fun” (21%), oatmeal raisin is the cookie people most associate with “anger” (19%), while brownie/double chocolate is the cookie Americans say best represents “love” (17%).
