Majority Of Dog Owners Think Their Dogs Have Better Social Lives

Does your dog have an active social life? A lot of dog parents do, in fact, a new survey finds 60% of them think their pet’s social life is better than their own. And a third (34%) believe their dog has an easier time making friends than they do.

According to the poll of 2-thousand dog owners:

  • Nearly two-thirds (63%) think their dog doesn’t just have friends, but “frenemies,” too.
  • Another 52% believe their dog has a bestie and 49% say their pet has a boyfriend or a girlfriend in their social circle.
  • These doggy friendships form when staying with a loved one (61%), while out on a walk (58%), at doggy daycare or a boarding place (48%) and at a dog park (43%).
  • Dog owners say they’ve made at least three friends just because their dogs met each other.
  • On average, respondents take their pets to the dog park about four times a week and 39% feel more connected to their neighborhood thanks to these parks.
  • Dog parents say their pet loves dog parks because they get the freedom to roam around without a leash (32%), they enjoy meeting other dogs (25%) and like cooling off in the water features (12%).
  • Three-quarters of respondents go to the closest dog park, but those who avoid that one do it because their dog’s friends are at a dog park farther away (66%), the nearest park is too small (44%) or isn’t kept in good condition (43%).
