The Top Pet Parent Panics

Parents never stop worrying about their kids and it’s no different for dog and cat moms and dads. New research finds that the average pet owner has six “pet panics” every month, adding up to 72 over the course of a year.

According to a new survey of 2-thousand American cat and dog owners:

  • These worries can be related to things that have already happened (18%), hypothetical situations that could happen or both (54%).
  • The most common pet panics are their pet throwing up unexpectedly (52%), falling off a chair or couch (48%) or slipping out of their leash outside (45%).
  • Top concerns also include their pet refusing to eat (43%), not coming when called (28%) and escaping their house or yard (15%).
  • Respondents worry about their pet’s well-being an average of three times a day, and 39% admit they lose over 11 hours of sleep a week worrying about their pet.
  • That may be because 15% are more concerned about their pet’s health issues than their own and 13% worry more about their pet’s well-being than their own.
  • Pet owners spend about five hours away from their cat or dog on an average day.
  • When their pet is at home without them, their humans worry they’re getting into something they shouldn’t (68%), if their pet is sad (47%), if they’re hungry (45%) and if they’ve gotten out of the house or yard (21%).
  • If their pet did manage to escape, 60% think their cat or dog would probably enjoy a night outside alone.
