Pet Owners Think They Adopted Four-Legged Versions Of Themselves

A lot of folks think their pet is just like them, and new research reveals just how far that goes. According to a survey of 2-thousand dog and cat owners, 65% believe they adopted themself in animal form because of all the traits they have in common.

The poll of pet parents finds:

  • Over a third (38%) of respondents say they share personality traits or hobbies with their pet.
  • The top ones they have in common include enjoying long walks (67%), a love of peanut butter (50%), not liking mornings (32%) and taking naps in patches of sunlight (24%).
  • Another 34% also think they share physical characteristics with their pet, like the same eye color (61%), similar overall size (54%), or the same hair and fur style (54%).
  • Cat owners are only slightly more likely to say they “adopted themselves in pet form” than dog owners, 70% versus 63%.
  • But dog owners feel they have more noticeable similarities with their pets, 36% of them believe they share physical characteristics with their dog, compared to 29% of cat owners.
  • Some pet owners say they’re so similar to their pets, they even have the same New Year’s resolutions.
  • While 44% have made a resolution for themselves, 46% have made one for their pet and among those who did both, 90% say the resolutions are the same for them and their four-legged friend.
  • The top shared resolutions for both owners and their pets are exercising more (71%), cutting back on treats (71%) and eating healthier (64%).
