You know, most people aren’t really paying attention to the actual game when the big game is on. According to the survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults who say they watch the Super Bowl, almost two in five (17%) plan to watch 20 minutes or less of the action on the field this year.
The poll also finds:
- While 40% are looking forward to hosting or attending a Super Bowl party, they don’t spend much time in front of the TV.
- Respondents view an average of just 29 minutes of game play and 9% admit they probably won’t even know which teams are playing before they tune in.
- Nearly a third (29%) confess to spending more time in front of the food than anywhere else.
- So what is the best part of the Super Bowl? While 38% say it’s the football game itself, 55% are in it for the half-time show, 45% prefer the commercials and 40% like the drinks best.
- But even if they’re not watching, 77% of all respondents agree it’s rude to stand and talk in the room where people are watching the game.
- People take their Super Bowl party hosting duties seriously, spending around eight days planning the menu, inviting guests and getting ready.
- Almost a third (31%) spend more time planning their Super Bowl party than they do for a holiday celebration (24%) or graduation party (8%).
- Some have even gone as far as buying a new grill (57%) or a new TV (32%) before the game.
- More than three-quarters (77%) say the food and snacks are essential to the overall Super Bowl experience.
- Favorite game day party foods include chips (55%), dips (50%), hot dogs (42%), pizza (39%), burgers (37%) and even grilled veggies (15%).
- But what makes the perfect Super Bowl feast? For 64% it’s something relevant to the game, like Philly cheesesteaks when the Eagles play or barbeque for Kansas City.
