There’s no doubt that dogs add a lot of happiness to their humans’ lives, but owning a dog does come with some challenges and inconveniences. And new research reveals some of the biggest ones.
Forbes Advisor recently surveyed 10-thousand dog owners across the country, 200 from each state.
- They found that the top annoyance overall is having to find a dog sitter when going out of town.
- Having to walk/exercise the dog
- Excessive shedding
- When the dog jumps on them or others

- Having to find a pet sitter when they go out of town and can’t bring their dog along (37%)
- Having to find dog-friendly hotels while on vacation (24%)
- Having to walk/exercise the dog, go to the dog park, play fetch, etc. (23%)
- The expense of owning a dog (23%)
- Excessive barking (20%)
- Excessive shedding (17%)
- Having to pick up the dog’s poop (15%)
- Having to take the dog to the vet (13%)
- When the dog gets the house or furniture dirty (11%)
- When the dog jumps on them or others (10%)
