Rom-coms have taught us that meeting someone at a romantic destination and falling in love happens all the time, but it turns out, in real life, people are interested in something much more casual. According to a new survey, 41% of Americans want to have a summer fling this year.
The poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults finds:
- Three-quarters (74%) of singles are dreaming of a meet-cute before their vacation, but they’re not the only ones.
- While 95% of respondents in relationships are planning to stay with their partner over the summer, 26% are also interested in having a summer fling.
- Many of them are hoping to get frisky when out of town, as 26% say they’ll try to have a romantic encounter with someone on vacation, including 17% who are already in a relationship.
- More than a third (37%) of all respondents are interested in vacation hookups, with an average of two people.
- To help ensure they get one, 79% pack their best for their trip and 64% say the chance to meet someone new affects what they wear.
- Some are speaking from experience, as 42% have already had a romantic encounter with someone they met on vacation.
- And 52% of respondents say they had the best sex of their life while on vacation.
- That may be because 31% admit they’re more likely to be sexually adventurous on vacation.
- But many Americans believe what happens on vacation should stay there, including 37% who say vacation relationships should only be one-night stands or last as long as the trip. Only 23% believe the romance should extend beyond the trip.
- And eight in 10 of respondents in a relationship hope a vacation spices up their sex life.
