The Most Common Things Couples Fight About

Whether they do it out in the open in front of anyone and everyone, or seem to get along so well you can’t imagine them disagreeing about anything, all couples fight. Huge blow-ups may be reserved for major relationship issues like cheating or the in-laws, but new research suggests it’s the trivial things that couples tend to clash over most.

According to a new survey of 2-thousand adults:

  • The most common time for couples to argue is between 6p.m. and 8p.m.
  • Couples who live together fight frequently, with 41% admitting they argue with their partner at least five times a week.
  • When they need a break from the bickering, people tend to hide out in the bathroom with their phone, take a bath or shower, or make up an excuse to run an errand or go somewhere alone.
  • Among the women surveyed, nearly a quarter (23%) say the toilet seat being left up is one of their top complaints at home, compared to 8% of men who say the same.
  • About the same number of women (24%) also get mad when their partner doesn’t replace the toilet paper roll, but that only bugs 14% of guys.
  • Some couples claim to have figured out how to live harmoniously with their partner and 20% of them think separate bathrooms is the key. Another 17% would take it one step further and have separate bedrooms if they could.

The Top 10 Reasons Live-In Couples Argue:

  1. Not keeping the house clean 28%
  2. Partner not doing their share of household chores 22%
  3. Money 19%
  4. What to eat for dinner 16%
  5. Who left the lights on 15%
  6. Constantly being on the phone 14%
  7. What to watch on TV 13%
  8. Changing the thermostat temperature 12%
  9. Sleeping with the TV on 12%
  10. Turning on “big lights” instead of lamps 9%
