A Third Of Us Feel Cramped In Our Home

Do you feel like clutter is taking over your home? A lot of folks do, according to a new survey that finds half of Americans have at least one room in their home that they believe is “unsalvageable with clutter.”

The poll of 2-thousand adults reveals:

  • A third (34%) feel cramped in their homes, especially people who live in apartments (39%).
  • While 69% of respondents are satisfied with the space in their home, 17% admit they’re not, and 73% of them knew space was an issue when they moved in.
  • But some were okay with the amount of space at first, including 30% who feel like they’ve just outgrown their home.
  • To make room for new stuff, the average person does three major cleanouts a year, and 29% do them even more often.
  • Three-quarters of respondents (76%) feel they know the best way to make use of the space in their home.
  • People feel the easiest rooms to organize are the living room (28%), bedroom (27%) and bathroom (20%), while the kitchen and garage are considered more of a challenge.
  • To have more space, respondents claim they’d be able to get rid of 30% of their stuff, but more than half (55%) wish they didn’t have to part with things in their home to have enough room.
  • The hardest things to get rid of are clothes (29%), kitchen equipment (21%) and hobby items (16%).
  • The average American wishes they had three more rooms in their home to feel like they had enough space.
  • If they could make a few rooms larger, people would choose a bigger bedroom (23%) and kitchen (19%).
