Where Most Of Us Meet Our Partners These Days

Happy Valentine’s Day! In honor of the most romantic day of the year, a new survey from Forbes Health reveals how Americans feel about dating and where people are having the best luck meeting their romantic partners.

According to the poll of 5-thousand U.S. adults who’ve actively dated in the last five years:

  • Online dating is the most popular spot to meet someone to date, with 45% of respondents reporting dating apps are the best place for them to meet a partner. A third (33%) meet through a friend, 32% at concerts or festivals and 27% on social media.
  • Nearly two-thirds (64%) say they’re actively dating, while 36% are not.
  • In general, 60% of Americans feel very or somewhat positive about dating, while 23% feel indifferent and 13% have negative feelings about it.
  • Men feel slightly more positive about dating than women, 68% compared to 55% of women.
  • When meeting someone for a first date, half of respondents say both looks and personality are equally important, but 13% admit appearance is their top concern.
  • How long does it take people to confess their love to their new partner? The largest percentage (29.4%) of those polled say those three little words should be expressed within the first four to six months of dating, while 21% feel it’s best said after one to three months and 14% think after seven to nine months is the right time to say “I love you.”
  • The states where people are quickest to share their love for a partner are Arizona, Massachusetts and Connecticut, while Oregon, Illinois and New Mexico are the slowest.
  • When asked about what they consider cheating, it’s not just physical infidelity that counts for many. For 42.3%, their partner daydreaming about someone else in a romantic way is cheating, 41% feel flirting is cheating and 38% consider it cheating if their partner still has an online dating profile. Surprisingly, only 36.3% say they’d consider it cheating if their partner sleeps with someone else once.
