The Life Choices We Regret the Most

We make an unbelievable number of decisions on a daily basis, research shows it’s about 35-thousand a day for the average adult, so it’s not surprising that we end up regretting some of them. While we might prefer to never think about them again, a new survey has people admitting the life choices they regret most.

According to a poll of 2-thousand adults, people spend nearly six days a year wishing they could undo certain life choices.

  • Almost half (47%) struggle to come to terms with their past decisions they regret.
  • That includes 48% who dwell on “what if” scenarios and 37% who have trouble letting go of things they can’t change.
  • For three in 10, they can’t forget their regrettable choices because friends still bring them up even years later.
  • One of the biggest regrets people have is staying in that one relationship as long as they did.
  • The average person has two former lovers they’d rather forget all together.
  • Dealing with breakups can be awful, leading 48% to erase every trace of an ex online afterwards.
  • Nearly two-thirds (62%) feel removing all signs of a former partner from their phone and social media is cathartic. And 12% do it on the day of the split.
  • Beyond social media, tearing up photos of an ex is the most common break-up ritual (17%), followed by throwing away clothes (16%).
  • It takes an average of three to four months to get over a breakup, but for one in 10, it takes more than a year to move on.
