Way back in February 1975, Michael Murphey released the song "Wildfire," which would be one of the biggest pop hits of the year and would end up being his career record.
Heading into the 80s, Murphey (going by the name Michael Martin Murphey) would forge a solid country career, with hits like "What's Forever For," "Still Taking Chances" and "A Long Line of Love."
Fifty years after it was first released, "Wildfire" has been resurrected, with Murphey getting help from Cody Johnson on the re-recording.
In a statement, Murphey said, "Over 50 years ago this song came to me in a dream, and after 50 years I can’t believe the impact it’s had. Cody Johnson’s voice was great and the combination was incredible to do together. I hope this song impacts more generations and the stories continue to be told of how ‘Wildfire’ moved them. Some songs are just brought to life through an amazing gift, ‘Wildfire’ is like that to me."
A new visualizer, featuring scenes from the feature film "Wildfire: The Legend of the Cherokee Ghost Horse" which is based on the song, is below. Check it out.
